We are a public policy and leadership institute at Toronto Metropolitan University, connecting people to the ideas and power we need to build a more inclusive, innovative, prosperous Canada.

At the Dais, we believe that bold ideas plus deliberate actions create impact. That’s why we bring people together to confront big challenges, put our research and solutions into the hands of decision-makers, and equip leaders — policy leaders, and change-makers from every age and stage — with the knowledge and skills to act on the issues.

A proven approach
We believe that you can’t separate the work on the people from work on the problem. So, we work to develop both at the same time. Our public policy and leadership development programs work hand-in-hand, with insights from one informing the other to make impact. In the face of declining faith in our institutions, we work to amplify new voices and leaders in pursuit of lasting change.

Our strategic advantage
Our home base at Toronto Metropolitan University provides access to the next generation of change-makers and the ability to convene interdisciplinary experts who can develop new ideas and challenge old assumptions - with local, national and international reach.

We build on the proud legacies of the Leadership Lab and the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship, which merged together at TMU in 2023 to create the Dais.

Together, we tackle Canada’s most pressing public challenges, from managing the enormous risks and opportunities of emerging technologies to ensuring that our democratic and learning institutions are trusted, resilient and fit for purpose in the 21st century. We work for a more inclusive, innovative economy, education system and democracy for Canada.
